This is not the first time the tournament has come under threat due to COVID-19. On Monday, India’s second match against Malaysia also had to be cancelled after a member of the Malaysian team — Nurul Faezah Shafiqah Khalim tested positive upon arrival in South Korea.

Last edition’s runners-up, India had earlier thrashed a lowly Thailand 13-0 in the opener.

The Women’s Asian Champions Trophy was originally scheduled for 2020 but was postponed multiple times because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
