Asia Cup Final: Yash Dhull & Co warm up for U-19 World Cup with record 8th U-19 Asia Cup title, thrash Sri Lanka by 9 wickets (DLS) in final

Coming to chase 102 runs target (revised DLS total) India lost its top scorer of the tournament – Harnoor Singh (5) early in the run chase. But, with not many runs to chase, Angkrish Raghuvanshi (56*) & Shaik Rasheed (31*) steered the side to an easy win. The duo stitched 96 run partnership for the second wicket to guide India home.

Earlier, a disciplined bowling effort helped India restrict Sri Lanka to 106/9 in a rain-marred final that was reduced to 38 overs per side. Vicky Ostwal was the pick of bowlers for India as he picked up three wickets, including two in a single over. Rajvardhan Hangargekar and Raj Bawa picked a wicket each while Kaushal Tambe chipped in with two wickets.

For Sri Lanka, Yasiru Rodrigo (19 unbeaten) was the top scorer as no batter managed to reach 20-run mark. Indian bowlers dominated right from the start as Sri Lanka’s top three batters couldn’t manage to reach double digits. The match was halted due to rain when Sri Lanka were on 74/7 from 32.5 overs. When the final resumed, the match was reduced to 38 overs per side and Sri Lanka added 32 runs in the last five overs after the rain break to reach three figures and eventually managed 106/9 on board.

Earlier, in the group stage, India finished second, having lost to Pakistan, before beating Bangladesh to make the final. In nine editions of the U-19 Asia Cup, India have won eight times now, which includes a shared trophy in 2012.

Yash Dhull led side will enter the U19 World Cup starting January 14 in West Indies high on confidence and will be eying to lift the World Cup Trophy.

Brief Scores: Sri Lanka 106/9 (Yasiru Rodrigo 19*; Vicky Ostwal 3-11) vs India 104/1 (Angkrish Raghuvanshi 56*, Shaik Rasheed 31*; Yasiru Rodrigo 1-12) DLS method
BCCI president Sourav Ganguly congratulated the entire contingent for a commendable effort and winning the Asia Cup title for record 8th time.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah & former domestic batting legend Wasim Jaffer also congratulated Yash Dhull led side on becoming U-19 Asia champions.
