Asia Cup 2022 LIVE: Ravichandran Ashwin has turned a corner in the shortest format since 2021. The off-spinner performed well in IPL 2022 and picked 12 wickets and scored 191 runs in 17 matches. However, after his relative success in IPL, he was not considered for the T20 series against South Africa and England. The RR spinner was included in the five-match T20 series against West Indies and now has also been picked for Asia Cup 2022.
Ashwin bowls at a pretty good economy rate of below 8 runs per over. He is also pretty handy with bat in hand. The off-spinner has batted as a pinch hitter for India. Former India player Karsan Ghavri feels if the 34-year-old has a good Asia Cup, consider him for T20 World Cup in Australia also.
“The selectors should persist with him for Asia Cup. Since Asia Cup is before the World Cup, it is a very good platform to further check upon his performance. If he is selected for Asia Cup and does well then, he should be picked for the World Cup,” Karsan Ghavri told InsideSport.IN.

Asia Cup 2022 LIVE – Ravi Bishnoi: Leg spinner Bishnoi had a terrific T20 series against West Indies and picked up 8 wickets. The youngster bamboozled the batters with googlies and picked wickets whenever called upon to bowl. Bishnoi was coming off a mediocre IPL 2022 as he picked up 13 wickets in 14 matches. His economy rate was also a touch higher at 8.44.
But he bounced back well during the West Indies series. But the disadvantage is that like Chahal, he is also a leg spinner and unless Bishnoi has an exceptional series he might not be picked. The LSG leg spinner also does not bat like Ashwin. So, Bishnoi has to take wickets and bowl economically to pip Ashwin in the place for T20 World Cup Down Under.

Head coach Rahul Dravid is likely to opt for two spinners in the line-up during the Asia Cup with the conditions on offer. If fit, Ravindra Jadeja will dovetail bowling and batting in his role as a finisher at No.7. Chahal will likely be the first choice spinner in the Indian team while one of Ashwin or Bishnoi could add to the team’s arsenal. Ashwin’s growing confidence and ability with the bat make him a useful addition especially with India missing the services of Harshal Patel at No.8.
