‘As professional players, mistakes are OK if you learn from them, but we have collapsed three times in a row now. In Australia, it can be hard to start but when you get past the first 30 balls, you must make things count and we’ve not managed to do that yet. Without looking to make excuses, we have guys who have spent 45 minutes in the middle on the whole tour,’ Broad wrote on DailyMail.
‘It would be a long way back from 2-0 down when we need to win the series to reclaim the urn and we haven’t fired with bat or ball yet. We’ve collapsed three times and Australia have scored 400 twice. We need to change things pretty quickly,’ he added.
He also drawn similarities with Pat Cummins’ absence to Glenn McGrath in 2005 but England did not bat first.
‘I thought Pat Cummins being ruled out of the second Test through pandemic protocols had the potential to be the Glenn McGrath 2005 moment of this Ashes. One-nil down, the opposition’s best bowler misses the game in freak circumstances. But for similarities to McGrath standing on the ball at Edgbaston 16 years ago to be retained, we had to bat first,’ he further said.
Broad also thanked his England teammates for receiving special tribute in his 150th Test.

It made me quite emotional. I am a lover of red wine and they also presented me with a bottle of 2007 Penfolds Grange — from the year of my debut. On the one hand, it made me sad my family can’t be here. On the other, it was an awesome morning,’ he signed off.

Alastair Cook criticizes England batting
Former England captain Alastair Cook has criticised England for making basic mistakes. “It is all too familiar and it is incredibly frustrating for the players, the coaches. You can’t afford to lose wickets in clusters,” Cook said on BT Sport.
“You have got batting coaches saying: ‘If you lose a wicket you have to rebuild’, all the stuff you tell 13-year-olds in team meetings, and unfortunately they are not learning lessons. They are not being good enough when they are put under pressure as a batting unit,” he added.
Meanwhile, Dawid Malan, who top-scored with 80 runs and shared 138 runs partnership with Joe Root, said England need to stop losing wickets. “We need to get better when we lose that one wicket to make sure we get another partnership going as quickly as possible,” BT Sport quoted him as saying. Malan & Root had earlier shared 162 runs partnership at the Gabba, Brisbane.
