At 35, Stuart Broad has played 149 Tests and took 524 wickets. He will look to salvage his apparently last chance to play in a full Ashes win in Australia. He had failed to feature in England’s victory at Melbourne and Sydney during England’s famous Ashes 2010/11 series victory due to a serious stomach injury.

However, Broad knows England need to score a big total in the first innings for him and James Anderson to make a proper impact with the ball.

He had earlier expressed his disappointment over England’s decision to leave him out of the first Test. Broad would be hoping to repeat his last year’s heroics where he took 29 wickets in five matches against West Indies and Pakistan to become player of the summer. His presence would further enhance England bowling.

Stuart Broad will become the 10th player to play in 150 Tests:

  • Sachin Tendulkar – 200
  • Ricky Ponting- 168
  • Steve Waugh- 168
  • James Anderson- 166
  • Jacques Kallis- 166
  • Shivanarine Chanderpaul- 164
  • Rahul Dravid- 164
  • Alastair Cook- 161
  • Allan Border- 156
  • Stuart Broad- 149*

Ashes 2021 LIVE: 1156 wickets veterans Stuart Broad and James Anderson fit for Adelaide Test, confirms England

Stuart Broad has said that there is no time for England to feel sorry and need to focus on Adelaide Test.

“We must pretend it’s 0-0 in a four-match series and go again. There will also be moments when you need to sit in. David Warner got a triple hundred in a pink-ball game at Adelaide Oval, so we can’t just think it’s going to nip around. We have to adjust quicker than Australia with whatever is presented to us,” he told DailyMail.

“Personally, I have tried to get a step ahead these past few days. When I was told I wasn’t playing, it was straight to the nets, pink ball in hand and I have been bowling in the nets with Jimmy and Craig Overton all week,” he added.

  • Stuart Broad has taken record 118 wickets against Australia in 32 matches that feature 7-wicket hauls and one 10-wicket match. But in Australia, he manages just 34 wickets from 12 Tests. This year, he has scalped only 10 wickets in 6 Test matches.
  • He had dismissed dangerous Steve Smith for record 8 times in Tests and David Warner on 12 occasions in the format.
  • Broad is likely to play in place of Jack Leach who was hammered around the park by Australia in the first Test.

Ashes Schedule

  • First Test: Australia won by nine wickets
  • Second Test: December 16-20, Adelaide Oval
  • Third Test: December 26-30, MCG
  • Fourth Test: January 5-9, SCG
  • Fifth Test: January 14-18, Blundstone Arena
