Artur Beterbiev boxing career in Amateur

Beterbiev competed as light-heavy and heavyweight in his amateur career and finished 295-5 overall. He defeated Kenneth Egan and Ismail Sillakh, among others, to win the 2006 European Amateur Boxing Championships. In 2006, he defeated Egor Mekhontsev but fell short against two-time world champion Evgeny Makarenko.

He defeated Sergey Kovalev, the eventual undisputed light-heavyweight champion, in the semi-finals in 2007 to get to the World Championships. He then defeated Evgeny Makarenko in the championship match. He met the unknown Abbos Atoev in the World Championships finals, but he lost in shock.

In the round of 16 of the 2008 Olympics, he controversially lost to local boxer Zhang Xiaoping, who went on to win the gold medal after defeating Kennedy Katende by a score of 15:3. He won the light heavyweight division at the 2009 World Championships in defeating Elshod Rasulov of Uzbekistan and young Jose Larduet of Cuba.

Eventual champion Oleksandr Usyk defeated him by scoring 13–17 in the quarterfinals of the 2011 World Championships. At the 2012 Olympics, he narrowly defeated Michael Hunter but fell to Usyk again by a score of 13–17. These two competed in the heavyweight class. Artur Beterbiev and Oleksandr Usyk clashed thrice during their amateur careers, including during the 2011 Heavyweight World Championships.  In three boxing matches, the Russian boxer has only one win over Usyk.

Artur Beterbiev boxing career as professional

Currently unbeaten is Artur Beterbiev. He is now on an 18-fight winning streak and has not yet suffered a loss. Beterbiev has so far eliminated 18 of his 18 opponents by knockout. He currently has a 100% KO rate.

After 11 professional fights, Beterbiev faced Enrico Kölling for the light-heavyweight IBF (vacant) title on November 11, 2017, at the age of 32. In the 12th round, he knocked out Kölling to win the world title at light-heavyweight. He has two unified world titles at light-heavyweight and three world championships overall.

Joe Smith Jr., Callum Johnson, Oleksandr Gvozdyk, Tavoris Cloud, Isidro Ranoni Prieto, and Marcus Browne are some of the prominent opponents Beterbiev has defeated. On June 18, 2022, he faced his last opponent, an American boxer Joe Smith Jr. in a match for the light-heavyweight championship. Seven months passed since Beterbiev won the fight, successfully defending his WBC and IBF belts and claiming the WBO crown.
