Every game counts but LSG and RCB have the advantage of knowing the margins exactly what they need to make it to the playoffs. With NRR also in play, the teams playing in the second games this weekend will know the margins precisely.
The decision has not been popular with former India opener Aakash Chopra wanting the BCCI to tweak the schedule accordingly. In a social media post, Chopra wrote, “Provision of starting the games in the final leg at the same time. Today, LSG has the advantage of knowing the exact math to go over CSK on NRR…because CSK plays first. Same for tomorrow depending on today’s results.”

The thought of hosting a doubleheader is not new for BCCI or the IPL. In 2021, Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers vs Delhi Capitals were held at the same time. The timings were tweaked to not let any team have an unfair advantage heading into the final game of the season.
