Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has warned Team India against making rank-turners in the IND vs ENG 2nd Test, starting on February 2 in Visakhapatnam.
While speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra pointed out Indian batters are not in good form and a turning square track could backfire.
“Don’t get overexcited that ‘we need turning pitches’ because your [Team India] batters are not in form. When batters are not in form, your spinners and their [England] spinners will be equally effective“, Chopra said.
The former India opener further emphasised that a rank turner will make Indian spinners and England spinners equally effective.
“They [English spinners] don’t have accuracy but how does it matter. Tom Hartley bowls like Bishan pa [Bedi] and Joe Root becomes Muttiah Muralitharan on those kind of tracks”, Aakash Chopra further added.
While Chopra acknowledged that a decent surface might allow England batters to go hammer and tongs, he suggested that playing Kuldeep might help counter that.

“I do agree that England will score quick runs on decent surface. But can play Kuldeep [Yadav] and hope he can spin a web around the English batters. A good surface is I am hoping for but don’t know what India is thinking” Chopra concluded.
