In the Green Group encounter, both the players gave a good fight but it was Ruud who clinched the victory after winning few crucial moments in the contest that stretched for one-hour, 51-minutes. Both the players started off well dominating in serve as the first set went into the tie-breaker. In the tie-breaker, Ruud was ahead right from the start and won it 7-4 without much fuss.
Felix Auger-Aliassime, who is making his tournament debut tried hard to make a comeback in the second set. But he lost the momentum in the sixth game of the second set as he allowed the Norwegian to take 4-3 lead in the contest. Aliassime tried to make a comeback immediately in the next game as he led 30-0. However he couldn’t close out the game as Ruud managed to make a comeback to hold his service game and went on to win the set 6-4. The 22-year-old Canadian will seek to bounce back in his remaining round-robin matches against Rafael Nadal and Taylor Fritz.

I knew if I wanted to have any chance against any of the guy in my group I would have to bring my A-game, and today I was able to do so.”
“I think this is some of the best level that I have played since the US Open,” said Ruud after the match. “The last couple of months have been a little bit of a struggle, I have to honestly say that, but you have to accept it as well. You will face difficult moments in your career, and maybe these last couple of months was one of those… It doesn’t matter how hard you practise if you don’t win matches, so today was a great win for me.”
The third-seeded Ruud is looking to progress from the round-robin stage for the second consecutive year in Turin. The Norwegian fell to Daniil Medvedev in the semi-finals in 2021.
