Nehal Wadhera will join Himachal Pradesh for the next domestic season, after not having gotten enough chances for Punjab.

PBKS batter Nehal Wadhera has decided to switch teams for the upcoming domestic season, as per a report in Cricinfo. The southpaw batter who played for Punjab earlier, will now be playing Himachal Pradesh in the 2026-27 domestic season. Another player, Prashant Chopra who plied his trade for Uttarakhand, will now be playing for his home side, HP.

Nehal Wadhera to move to Himachal Pradesh

Coming back to Nehal Wadhera, he could only manage to play 3 FC, 2 List A, and 4 T20Is for his state. It is needless to say, how his returns were in these matches. In all he managed to play 17 FC matches for his team, scoring 904 runs at an average of 37.66, including three tons and two fifties. In 16 List A games, he scored only 354 runs.

Himachal Pradesh have been making a few changes to their roster, considering their performances have not been great in the last few years, where lesser teams have made rapid progress. In the Ranji Trophy last season, they finished last in Elite Group D, where they failed to win even a single match — with two losses and five draws.

2026 was season of mediocre performances

In SMAT, they were placed in Group C, where they finished 7th, winning only one match from 7 played. Whereas in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, they finished 5th in Group C, winning three and losing four. That has also led them to make changes in their coaching staff. They have brought in Vineet Saxena, who replaces VRV Singh as head coach. Gagandeep Singh becomes the bowling coach.

As for Wadhera, he would be looking to put behind a forgettable IPL 2026 season as well. He had a poor run for PBKS, where in 8 matches for his side, he could only score 65 runs at an average of 10.83, where his strike rate was only 114. Perhaps a change in domestic team could change his fortunes too in the coming months.
