The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to give the green light to India’s white-ball tour of Bangladesh. The Men in Blue were originally slated to face the Tigers in August 2025, but due to political tensions between the two countries, the tour was pushed back to September 2026.
Earlier in the month, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had invited bids for the television and digital media rights for the 6-match series. The move was perceived as positive. One assumed the BCB had finally received BCCI’s approval for the tour, but that wasn’t the case.
BCB confident of IND vs BAN series going ahead
Last week, the BCB vowed to enhance the security measures for the series if India arrives as planned. But still, there was no official work. At last, it seems like the series will take place. Newly elected BCB President Tamim Iqbal has returned from the International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting in Edinburgh, Scotland, on a positive note.
“We are hopeful about the tour. We haven’t got the green signal as yet from the BCCI, but they also have not said they are not coming. So, we are hoping to get a positive response from the BCCI soon,” a top BCB official told the Times of India.
Although nothing’s official yet, BCB seems confident. Tamim, a former Bangladesh captain, had previously stated that he shares a great rapport with BCCI President Mithun Manhas and believes he can lean on that. Maybe that’s what happened. Or something else transpired, regarding which we don’t have information.
IND vs AFG series pushed back
In June, it was learnt that Afghanistan will play T20I matches from September 13 to 19 in Delhi. That would mean the series would directly clash with the Bangladesh tour. However, it’s learnt that BCCI will push the starting date of the Afghanistan series from September 13 to 17, which will allow for both tours to go ahead without clashing.
