Fresh off Australia’s another commanding T20 World Cup win in England, Ashleigh Gardner has found herself in an uncomfortable situation. Away from the cricket field, her estranged wife Monica Wright has publicly accused the Australian vice-captain of cheating with fellow Australian cricketer Georgia Voll.
The controversy has started after reports surfaced detailing the breakdown of Gardner and Wright’s marriage, which lasted less than two years. The couple, who first met through a dating app in 2020, got engaged in 2024 before tying the knot in a private ceremony in the Blue Mountains in April 2025.
According to reports, cracks in the relationship began to appear during Australia’s Women’s ODI World Cup campaign in India last year. Wright reportedly travelled to India during the tournament after sensing something was wrong, with people close to the situation claiming Gardner appeared different from her usual self throughout the event. The marriage eventually came to an end in November 2025, although details remained largely private until this week.
Social media post puts Gardner and Voll in the spotlight
Monica has gone public with her allegations. She shared a news report about the split on social media, then posted a photo of Australian opener Georgia Voll with a caption that stopped everyone in their tracks: “This is who my wife cheated on me with.”
The post set off a wave of chatter across Australian cricket. A lot of that is because Voll is one of the country’s brightest young players, she’s also currently playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the WPL. It’s being reported that the breakup cut deep. Gardner and Wright had apparently been planning for kids and had even booked appointments at a fertility clinic before things fell apart.
Another detail that came out was that Gardner had moved out of their Sydney home. All that was left behind, according to Code Sports reports, were their wedding rings. For now, Gardner, Voll, and Cricket Australia haven’t said anything publicly about the allegations. At this point, these are claims made by Wright and haven’t been independently confirmed.
