Rahul Dravid’s son Anvay announces himself with match-saving 87 for India U-19
Rahul Dravid's younger son, Anvay Dravid is just 17 years old, and is representing India Under-19 team in Sri Lanka.

There was a time when Indian fans didn’t panic in a crisis because Rahul Dravid was out there. For nearly two decades, “The Wall” gave the team a sense of calm. On Sunday in Hambantota, the heritage continued with another Dravid saving India (albeit India Under-19). Anvay Dravid, Rahul’s younger son, played the innings of his short Under-19 career so far. With India struggling against Sri Lanka Under-19 in the 2nd Youth ODI, he made 87 off 67. He missed a hundred by 13, but he dragged India back into the game.

Batting first had gone badly for India. 81/4. Chauhan, Virk, Vineeth and Ojha were gone. Sri Lanka were in charge. Anvay changed that. The 17-year-old wicketkeeper-batter absorbed the early pressure, then countered. He scored freely, stayed calm, and didn’t let Sri Lanka squeeze India out of the contest.

Dravid’s 145-run partnership changed it for India U19

Anvay’s biggest contribution wasn’t just the runs. It was the partnership with Arjun Rajput. The two added 145 for the fifth wicket and flipped the innings. From 81/4 and in trouble, India were looked in control.

Rajput made a crucial 76, but Anvay set the tempo. He reached his first Under-19 fifty in 47 balls, with four fours and a six. Once he got in, he looked comfortable against pace and spin, and played with the calm you associate with that last name. When he fell for 87, India had moved to 263/7.

The platform he built helped them finish on a competitive 285 in 47.2 overs. It was another step in the Bengaluru teenager’s rise. Born on April 27, 2009, Anvay has come through Karnataka’s age-group system. He captained the state in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, scored 220 runs at 55, and has a Vijay Merchant Trophy hundred to his name. His India Under-19 debut on this tour brought just 14 runs. Young players often need one innings to announce themselves. This was his.
