Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel has been accused by a woman of allegedly maintaining a sexual relationship with her on the promise of marriage and then later refusing to do so. The cricketer from Bengal was last seen in action in the Bengal T20 League where he captained the Kolkata Royal Tigers. As per reports, Porel has also been accused of alleged criminal intimidation and assault, claims that he has vehemently denied.
Abhishek Porel in trouble?
As per news agency PTI, a woman, along with her mother, lodged a complaint against Porel at the Mogra Police Station in West Bengal’s Hooghly district on Tuesday. The woman, in her complaint, claimed that she was allegedly in a relationship with Abishek for the last three years and that the cricketer had allegedly had began distancing himself from her from last year. The complainant has accused the Bengal cricketer of assault and criminal intimidation apart from maintaining a sexual relationship under a false promise of marriage. The police confirmed to the news agency that a complaint had been received and that investigation was underway.
DC star responds
The wicketkeeper-batter, who is currently in Bengaluru, denied these allegations and claimed that this complaint has come to the fore now because he was playing well, hinting at foul play. Porel said that he would address the issue in detail when the police investigate, adding that he is yet to speak to the authorities.
“I am playing well now, so various things are coming up. I will talk about this when the police investigate. I have not spoken to the police yet,” Porel said.
Abishek Porel made his domestic debut for Bengal across formats in 2022. He was then bagged by DC in the IPL 2023 auction and has been with the team since then. He has 769 runs from 35 IPL matches to date.
