Suryakumar Yadav has not just been stripped off captaincy but has also been dropped from the T20I setup. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar explained the rationale behind handing Shreyas Iyer the reins of the team, noting that he has led various franchises successfully in the IPL, leading KKR to a win and leading PBKS to a final.
15-year-old Sooryavanshi has been picked in the squads for all the three series. He has been phenomenal over the last year, and delivered an exceptional performance in IPL 2026 where he finished as the leading run-getter and the winner of five awards. His whilwind performance in IPL has forced the selectors to fast track his senior men’s debut.
Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the series against Ireland and England, but will take part in the Asian Games 2026. Agarkar said that the decision was to manage the workload of the premium pacer.
