The India A team is to play a tri-series against Afghanistan A and Sri Lanka A, in the Island nation from June 9, and the squad for the same was announced a few days back. The Indian side was to be led by Tilak Varma, while Riyan Parag was named the vice-captain. But due to an injury to the RR skipper, Parag, the BCCI has named a change in the squad — with Ruturaj Gaikwad coming in as the replacement.
It is important to note, that Parag had been playing with a hamstring injury in the IPL 2026, which might have aggravated over the course of the tournament. Meanwhile, the Assam player will now undergo rehab at the CoE in Bengaluru.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi makes cut
Interestingly, teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has also been included in the 50-over series, who has been excellent in IPL this year, and is the current orange cap holder too. He has made a few records in this season; has become the first player to hit over 70 sixes in an entire season, and also became the first batter to score 500 runs in a season, in powerplays alone. If that is not enough, Sooryavanshi also became the fastest player to amass 1000 runs in the tournament; in only 440 deliveries.
Apart from him, some other notable mentions are — Priyansh Arya, Ayush Badoni, Suryansh Shedge, Kumar Kushagra, Vipraj Nigam, and Arshad Khan. When the tri-series ends on June 21, the India A team is slated to play two four-day games as well in Sri Lanka, against their A side, but the schedule for that is still not out.
Updated India A squad for tri-series: Tilak Varma (Captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad (vice-captain), Priyansh Arya, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Ayush Badoni, Nishant Sindhu, Suryansh Shedge, Prabhsimran Singh (WK), Kumar Kushagra (WK), Vipraj Nigam, Yash Thakur, Yudhvir Singh, Anshul Kamboj, Arshad Khan, Anukul Roy,Ruturaj Gaikwad added to India A squad for tri-series in Sri Lanka.
