With the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 nearing its business end, five teams are fighting for one remaining spot in the playoffs. While Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) gave some sigh of relief for the Chennai Super Kings on Sunday, the Yellow Army’s 5-wicket defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on May 18 simply dented their hopes to make it to the IPL 2026 playoffs. With one more game remaining for CSK, they have been handed another setback.
The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side, however, has been struggling with injuries to several of their players, including MS Dhoni, Khaleel Ahmed, Jamie Overton, and others. But recent reports citing RevSportz have claimed that MS Dhoni will not travel with the team to Ahmedabad for their final league stage fixture, despite showing on the sidelines in their final home game of the season on May 18. It is to be noted that CSK is set to face Gujarat Titans (GT) on May 21 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
MS Dhoni likely to come back in IPL 2027
MS Dhoni hasn’t featured in any game in this year’s edition due to recurring calf injury followed by a reported thumb injury. However, he has been spotted in the dugout with the team on several occasions and has also been involved in some training sessions. While his future continues to be the most talked topics in the IPL, whether he’ll continue to play next year has once again come to light.
Reports by RevSportz have informed that whether he’ll continue as a player remains undecided, but the CSK management is confident that he’ll at least return for a home game next year in IPL 2027. It is to be noted that before the CSK vs SRH fixture, reports were rife of MS Dhoni playing his farewell match. However, they were falsified as the 44-year-old did not feature in the game, continuing his absence from the field.
