On Monday, May 18, former champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated five-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by a 5-wicket margin to confirm their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 playoffs berth. While the win for SRH got them a sigh of relief, the Yellow Army’s hopes were dented right in front of their home fans at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. The Orange brigade chased the target of 181 with ease, courtesy of a 47-ball 70-run knock from Ishan Kishan and a brisk 47 from Heinrich Klaasen.
While Kishan was duly awarded the Player of the Match for his brilliant knock with the bat, which saw him hit 7 fours and three sixes, striking at the rate of 148.94.
But what became the talk after his knock was his taunting gesture towards the Chepauk crowd, videos of which have been going viral. The SRH wicketkeeper-batter was seen mocking CSK fans with a whistle-blowing gesture, followed by a sign indicating the home signal.
Ishan Kishan makes mockery of CSK fans
While the Indian wicketkeeper-batter did not signal once, but was seen repeatedly doing it. Moreover, Ishan Kishan also waved at the crowd before roaring, “Come on SRH!” It is to be noted that Ishan Kishan has had a good IPL 2026 season. Having featured in 13 games for SRH so far, he has amassed 490 runs at an average of 37.69 and a strike rate of 179.48. While he has registered 5 50-plus scores in the tournament, he is yet to score a century this season.

Following an easy win at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai against CSK, Ishan Kishan once again spoke of the emotional family tragedy while dedicating the win to his cousin sister. “Sometimes I feel it’s also about motivation, and for me, my motivation was today, my cousin is just standing there. He lost his sister. It was a tough time in our family and they are watching the match for the first time here,” he said during the post-match interaction.
