Suryakumar Yadav to be sacked?
Suryakumar Yadav’s poor run with the bat has now become a genuine concern for India ahead of the next T20 World Cup cycle. While his captaincy during India’s T20 World Cup 2026 triumph was superb, his batting numbers continue to slide sharply. In IPL 2026, SKY has managed just 195 runs in 11 matches at an average of 17.73, raising questions over his place in the T20I side itself. The selectors are expected to discuss India’s long-term T20 plans during their meeting on May 19, especially with the 2028 T20 World Cup and LA Olympics in mind. Read more here.

MS Dhoni to retire soon?
Uncertainty continues around MS Dhoni’s availability ahead of CSK’s home clash against SRH in IPL 2026. The 44-year-old has been dealing with a calf injury since the start of the season and, despite batting and keeping for long periods in the nets, has missed multiple games and not travelled regularly with the squad. Reports claim Dhoni was fit for the last two matches but chose not to play to avoid disturbing the team combination. Fresh reports suggest he had an intense practice session ahead of the SRH game, sparking hopes of a return at Chepauk. Meanwhile, speculation around this possibly being his final home appearance continues to grow among fans. Read more here.

Fuel shortage at IPL 2026
With fuel shortages becoming a concern in India amid the prolonged West Asia crisis, IPL 2026 has now come under the scanner as well. The Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) has written to Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, urging the government to reschedule the remaining IPL matches, restrict venues and even hold games behind closed doors to save fuel. CTI argued that teams have already travelled massive distances during the season and that austerity measures should apply to the IPL too. Responding to the issue, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal said the BCCI has received no official communication yet but will follow any directive issued by the Government of India regarding the tournament. BCCI unhappy with KKR?
The BCCI is reportedly unhappy with KKR over the handling of Varun Chakaravarthy’s injuries during IPL 2026. The mystery spinner first suffered fractures in his hand early in the season but continued playing after missing just two matches. Later, he also picked up a hairline fracture in his leg and still returned to action in a crucial game against Gujarat Titans. Despite clearly struggling physically, KKR’s medical staff cleared him to play, which has not gone down well with the BCCI. With India’s T20 series against Ireland and England coming up next month, the board is concerned about the workload and fitness management of centrally contracted players like Varun. Read more here.

Rishabh Pant to be demoted?
Rishabh Pant could lose India’s Test vice-captaincy ahead of the Afghanistan one-off Test, with selectors reportedly unhappy over how leadership responsibilities have affected his batting. Despite scoring 629 runs in seven Tests in 2025 at an average of 48.38, there is a feeling within the team management that Pant struggles to make the right decisions while carrying extra responsibility. The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee is expected to discuss the issue during its meeting in Guwahati. Reports suggest the management wants Pant to focus purely on his batting and wicketkeeping again. KL Rahul is also being considered as a possible deputy and backup wicketkeeping option in the Test side. Read more here.

LSG pacer in IND team?
Prince Yadav’s rise has been one of the stories of IPL 2026. The LSG pacer, who once bowled with tennis balls in local Delhi matches, is now reportedly being considered for India’s ODI series against Afghanistan. With Jasprit Bumrah’s workload being managed and Harshit Rana still injured, selectors are looking at fresh pace options ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup. Prince first impressed in domestic cricket before carrying that form into the IPL, where he has picked up 16 wickets in 12 matches. His ability to bowl hard lengths at high pace and deliver under pressure has stood out. Even Virat Kohli reportedly praised his focus and attitude during Delhi’s domestic season.
