Norwegian esports organization HEROIC has officially exited the 2026 Esports Foundation (EF) Club Partner Program. The decision follows recent internal organizational shifts within the club. Both parties mutually agreed to end the partnership. The Esports World Cup (EWC) team thanked HEROIC for its contribution to the wider ecosystem.
Why Did HEROIC Exit 2026 Esports World Cup Club Partner Program?
The primary reason for the exit stems from HEROIC shutting down its Dota 2 division earlier this month. The organization cited financial sustainability challenges within that specific title.
The EWC Club Partner Program requires member organizations to maintain a strong competitive presence across multiple game titles. Dropping the Dota 2 roster meant HEROIC no longer met these strict multi-title participation criteria. HEROIC’s Head of Commercial, Sam Molloy, confirmed the two-title requirement was the direct cause of the departure.
Financial and Competitive Impact
The partner program is highly lucrative for esports organizations. It offers selected clubs a share of a $20 million funding pool. Partners receive six-figure base payouts to scale operations and boost fan engagement. Some top organizations can earn up to $1 million annually through various performance incentives.
Losing this partner status puts immediate pressure on HEROIC’s financial budget. However, the organization can still compete in the upcoming Esports World Cup tournaments. Teams can earn spots through standard open qualification routes. HEROIC will continue focusing heavily on its core Counter-Strike 2 lineup.
What is Next for the Program?
The program features 40 elite global clubs selected via a rigorous application process. Notable organizations like FaZe Clan and Movistar KOI originally missed out on the 2026 list.
The Esports Foundation has not stated if a replacement club will take HEROIC’s vacant spot. Fans are waiting to see if another major organization will be elevated to partner status.
