Having a special jersey in the IPL has now become a norm. It started with RCB’s special ‘green initiative’ where the franchise wears their green jersey once every year in an afternoon game. Only a few days after Rajasthan Royals took the field in their special all-pink “Pink Promise” jersey to support women-led transformation initiatives. Now, Gujarat Titans (GT) are now set to make a powerful statement of their own.
When Shubman Gill’s side walks out against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday night, they will do so wearing a special lavender jersey as part of their annual initiative to support the fight against cancer. For Gujarat Titans, this has now become a tradition that was announced for IPL 2026 a few days ago.
Why are Gujarat Titans wearing lavender jerseys?
GT confirmed that the franchise will wear the lavender kit for the fourth consecutive year to raise awareness about cancer and stand in solidarity with fighters, survivors and families impacted by the disease.
In a statement released ahead of the game, the franchise said:
“For us, this game is about more than just cricket. As we prepare to face Sunrisers Hyderabad in the TATA IPL 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday, May 12, we will once again take the field in our special lavender jerseys to support the fight against cancer. This will be the fourth consecutive year that we wear the lavender jersey, standing in solidarity with every fighter, survivor and family impacted by cancer.“
“Through this initiative, we aim to spread awareness about the importance of early detection and access to quality care, while encouraging our Titans FAM to join us in this meaningful cause.”
Lavender has globally become associated with cancer awareness campaigns, and GT have consistently used the platform of the IPL to amplify the message. Notably, this will be the fourth year in a row that GT have come out in support to fight against cancer.
Players were already seen sporting the lavender jersey in promotional shoots and social media campaigns released by the franchise ahead of the SRH encounter.

After losing their opening two games of the season, GT turned things around and have since won seven of their last nine matches. They currently sit second on the IPL 2026 points table with 14 points and remain firmly in contention for both playoff qualification and a top-two finish. Another victory against Pat Cummins-led Sunrisers Hyderabad would surely strengthen Gujarat’s chances in the playoff race.
