For the first time since the 2022 season, Virat Kohli has registered two consecutive ducks in the Indian Premier League. After being dismissed for 0 against LSG in the previous game, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru veteran was once again sent packing without him being allowed to open his account in the IPL 2026 game against Mumbai Indians on Sunday. And this dip in form of ex-RCB captain Kohli could prove to be a bane for the team as they are on the verge of qualifying for the IPL 2026 playoffs, but a win in every game matters and therefore, the contribution of each batter as well.
Kohli repeats duck feat from 2022
In 2022, Kohli registered two consecutive ducks in the games against LSG and SRH on April 19 and April 23 respectively. He did not repeat that feat in the three seasons that followed. However, in IPL 2026, the feat has come back to haunt him as he was dismissed for a two-ball duck against LSG in the previous game and now for a golden duck against MI in Raipur. Virat looked to clear mid-off in his very first delivery of the run-chase, but mistimed, and instead was caught out by Raj Angad Bawa.
So far, Virat Kohli has 12 ducks to his name in the IPL. While he has always been among the top run-getters in the IPL and has rarely got dismissed for zero, this is the only second instance where Kohli has been sent packing for two consecutive ducks. 9 out of 12 times that Kohli has been dismissed for a duck, he has been caught out. Out of these, he has been dismissed 7 times for a golden duck while he has been sent packing without being allowed to open his account on 5 occasions while playing in Bengaluru.
Talking about Virat Kohli’s form in IPL 2026, he has scored 379 runs from 11 matches, at an average of 47.37 and at a strike rate of 164.06. However, his recent form is a point of concern for RCB. The defending champions are currently 4th on the IPL 2026 points table with 6 wins from 10 matches, and need to win at least 2 out of the rest of the four games in order to make it to the playoffs. However, Kohli’s form has seen a dip since the game against GT on April 24. Since then, he has registered scores of 23*, 28, 0 and 0. In the absence of Phil Salt, RCB are heavily dependent on Kohli to give the team the fiery start that is required. And in circumstances where he hasn’t been able to do so, the middle-order and other batters have come under extreme pressure.
