Suryakumar Yadav’s future as India’s T20I captain is uncertain. The BCCI isn’t pleased with the conduct of players and team owners. The IPL will expand soon. Gautam Gambhir wants to add a spin coach to the support staff. Meanwhile, Axar Patel’s batting is down in the dumps.

Shreyas Iyer in, Suryakumar Yadav out?
The BCCI is keen to move on from Suryakumar Yadav as India’s T20I captain. Although the 35-year-old was at the helm of India’s T20 World Cup 2026 title run earlier in the year, his performance since 2024 has been on a downward trend. As his struggles continue in IPL 2026, the BCCI wants to hand over the captaincy to Shreyas Iyer.

BCCI angered by transgressions
The BCCI Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) has flagged repeated violations of security and access protocols by owners, officials, and players during the IPL 2026 season. The board has warned of strict action and tightened rules regarding the entry of unauthorised individuals into hotel rooms and dugouts. They are also monitoring players who leave their rooms late at night.

IPL expansion coming
IPL chairman Arun Dhumal has hinted at the league expanding and increasing the matches from 74 to 94 from 2028 onwards. As per the existing media rights deals, which’ll run till 2027, the league was to increase games from 74 to 84 from 2025 onwards, but that hasn’t happened.

Arshdeep Singh vlogs banned
The BCCI has instructed PBKS fast bowler Arshdeep Singh to stop making vlogs during the IPL 2026 season. The directive came after one of Arshdeep’s videos showed his teammate Yuzvendra Chahal smoking an e-cigarette, which is banned in India, while inside an airplane.

Axar Patel’s batting slump
Axar Patel’s performance with the bat in IPL 2026 has gone from bad to worse. The DC captain had scored 33 runs in 7 innings prior to the KKR match. The home side was thumped as Axar managed just 11 off 22. Now, his season average and strike rate stand at 6.28 and 74.57.
