Riot Games is officially shaking up the League of Legends alternative game modes. The upcoming Patch 26.9 introduces a massive systemic shift, heavily focusing on breathing new life into Arena and fine-tuning the chaotic ARAM experience. With a strict priority on long-term progression, experimentation, and improved match pacing, here is a complete breakdown of the biggest updates hitting the client.

League of Legends Patch 26.9 Changes and Overhauls

Without question, the main highlight of the 26.9 patch is the massive overhaul of the Arena game mode. In order to increase build diversity and prevent any sort of stale meta, Riot Games is launching a whole new Augment tier system for the first time ever. The new system provides great scaling over time, as well as power spikes.

Riot is also directly addressing player burnout. Inter-round pacing has been intentionally slowed down, alleviating the stress of split-second shop decisions and giving squads more breathing room for strategic theory-crafting.

Players will have the option to compete on an all-new map themed after Demacia called Petricite Grove. It contains various environmental elements such as mining bombs, which will create additional tactical considerations during gameplay. On top of that, persistent fans of the mode can work on the Fame Track.

The classic Howling Abyss is receiving highly targeted balance sweeps to fix current meta pain points. In standard ARAM, the heavily utilized Hubris item is facing strict nerfs to its attack damage and ability haste to successfully curb excessive early-game snowballing from physical damage dealers.

Crucial Bug Fixes

Concluding the patch, Riot is implementing critical technical updates to safeguard the competitive integrity of the game. The developers have fixed major bugs related to champion attack speed, the invisibility function of items, and poor visual display during chaotic team battles.
