GT have won three on the trot, after starting with two losses in IPL 2026, and just about everything seems to be in place. Batting looks a bit scanty at the moment, with Sai Sudharsan not firing at the moment, and needs to be demoted in the order. But Gujarat isn’t the franchise that likes to tinker with its XI too much. They have had batters in the side, who hardly get to finish matches, and are still in the team — Rahul Tewatia, and Shahrukh Khan.
But somehow the wins are still coming for them, with some individual brilliance. On the other hand, Bowling seems to be working fine, with them unearthing a gem in Ashok Sharma, though there is lack of support for Rashid Khan. Hoping this could change, InsideSport takes a look at the predicted GT playing XI vs MI.
Get Jos Buttler to open with Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill has scored 251 runs so far in the tournament, where his strike-rate has been at 154, and is the second highest run-getter. But he is not getting good support from Sudharsan, who only has 135 runs in 5 matches, despite a 73. Instead, it is time to get Buttler at the top, who has struck form for the side, at the right time. He has 201 runs in 5 matches, and has scored at at the rate of 159. This should be a no-brainer.

Nishant Sindhu, Sai Kishore options available
Just to strengthen the batting, in that no. 6-7 position, there is Nishant Sindhu available in the squad. In 37 T20Is, he has scored over 700 runs, with a ton, and the SR is close to 140. He would come in the place of Shahrukh Khan. There is also a certain Sai Kishore, who can fill the void of the second spinner, and had bagged 19 wickets last year. He can chip in with the bat, and has a highest score of 87 in T20s.
Pace most sorted department
It looks like, Prasidh Krishna comes and takes wickets for fun. In 5 matches, he has 11 scalps. Next is Rabada, who has 7 now. Ashok Sharma, the pace prodigy has 6 wickets. So, even though they have the likes of Ishant Sharma waiting in the wings, there is just no place for him.
