Former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma may miss the team’s next Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) clash against Punjab Kings on Thursday as a precautionary measure. The Hitman was forced to retire hurt mid-way through the run-chase against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) earlier this week and subsequently underwent scans for what was a hamstring injury scare. Now, a new report has shed light on the nature of the scans and if Rohit will be available for the next game.
Will Rohit Sharma play in MI vs PBKS match?
As per Cricbuzz, Rohit skipped the team’s practice session on Tuesday. The report states that there is no information on the detection of a tear in his hamstring. If true, then this could come as a big relief for MI as Sharma is an integral part of their line-up. The report states that Mumbai Indians could either decide to leave Ro out of the playing XI for the game against Punjab Kings as a precautionary measure or leave it up to the player to decide if he wants to play or not.
“It is likely that the management, given the value of Rohit’s presence in the side, may opt to err on the side of caution to rule out the risk of aggravating the injury. However, it is also likely that the final call will be left to Rohit himself,” the report stated.
Rohit suffered a hamstring injury in the game against RCB. After being tended to by the physio before the start of the fifth over, Sharma decided to retire himself out two deliveries later as he was clearly struggling with a hamstring. Subsequently, he underwent scans.
Rohit was quite slow during his time out in the middle in the game against RCB and managed to score just 19 runs from 13 deliveries before he walked off the field. Rohit’s scores in IPL 2026 are as follows: 78, 35, 5, and 19. Meanwhile, Rohit also achieved a unique feat as he became the first batter to score over 6000 runs for MI.
