Yuvraj Singh opens up on Stuart Broad throwing signed jersey in bin after 6 sixes in an over incident
The former Indian all-rounder recently recalled one of the incidents in conversation with Michael Vaughan on his ‘The Overlap Cricket’ episode.

Former Indian cricketer and a legend of the game, Yuvraj Singh holds a special place in cricket folklore. But more importantly, his antics from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2007 are even more special, especially the six sixes in an over off Stuart Broad against England. While only a few selective players have been able to achieve this feat in cricketing history, Yuvraj’s mauling of Broad remains the most iconic.

While this incident is often talked about, the former Indian all-rounder recently recalled one of the incidents in conversation with Michael Vaughan on his ‘The Overlap Cricket’ episode. When asked about the jersey incident which was taken by Stuart’s father Chris Broad following the six sixes incident, Singh later learned that the England cricketer has thrown it in the dustbin.

Recalling the incident, Singh revealed, “Stuart’s dad, Chris Broad, was the match referee for the India-Australia match. He came and told me, ‘You almost finished my son’s career.’ I told him, ‘Sir, I have been hit for five sixes myself; I know how it feels.’ He said, ‘You need to sign a shirt for Stuart’.”

The 44-year-old further revealed the message he had written, which read, “So, on my India shirt, I wrote: I have been hit for five sixes. I know how it feels. I hope you go on to become the best.”

Yuvraj Singh praises Broad of latter’s “legendary” career

The Chandigarh-born later added that he recently came to know that the jersey was put in the bin and accepted the act. “I read recently that when Chris gave him that shirt, he threw it in the bin. He was so angry, and it is so acceptable,” he replied. Furthermore, the former Indian cricketer also praised Broad, who went on to pick some 635 Test wickets, hailing him as “legendary”.

“And from there, you know, he became a legendary fast bowler. Picked up more than, I think, 635 Test wickets. I mean he turned that moment into, I think, power and became a great bowler, and we often talk about that. I think somebody else’s career could have been over.”
