The PBKS vs GT match a few days back in IPL 2026, was a blockbuster contest. Chasing only 163, GT bowlers did make the opposition batters struggle a bit on the Mullanpur pitch, but in the end Punjab just scraped through. It was a three-wicket win in the end. More than the batting show itself, what would have been more concerning for the team, would have been the blow that Shreyas Iyer had copped during batting.
All okay with Shreyas Iyer
In the encounter, while batting with Cooper Connolly, he was hit by a ferocious shot by the Aussie all-rounder, and the PBKS batter needed immediate medical attention. In fact, after the match, he was seen wearing a bandage on the affected area. But as per PBKS assistant coach Brad Haddin, all is well with Shreyas Iyer.
There is reportedly no fracture, and he is available for selection as well in the next match vs CSK on Friday, April 3. Meanwhile, Iyer himself had spoken about the injury after the match. He had said, “All I can say about the hand is that it is nice, same as it was before, I do not want to jinx anything.”
If all goes well, Punjab Kings could end up fielding the same playing XI vs CSK. Despite the failure of the middle order against GT, they still boast of one of the best squads in the entire tournament. In fact, they have replacements for all players possible. It would be interesting to see how Iyer shapes up eventually; if in case he is not available, Musheer Khan could come in as replacement.
