Injury continues to trouble the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). A Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder isn’t permitted to bowl. The Mumbai Indians (MI) break their curse. Who’ll bat at three for Punjab Kings (PBKS)? Shaheen Afridi flaunts rules and should the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) change its withdrawal policy?

Dhoni injury serious
MS Dhoni’s injury is worse than suspected. Initially, the wicketkeeper was ruled out for 4 matches. However, it now seems that Dhoni will miss at least 6 games. This suggests that the former CSK captain will play his first IPL 2026 match on April 26 against the Gujarat Titans.

Green trouble for KKR
After 13 years, MI have won their opening match of an IPL season. Although the scorecard suggests a close match, MI had beaten KKR long before the game ended. The biggest talking point was Cameron Green, who didn’t bowl. After the game, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane revealed that Cricket Australia hasn’t permitted him to bowl.

No Brevis in CSK vs RR match
Unfortunately for CSK, Dhoni won’t be the only player who’s ruled out of their IPL 2026 opener against RR. Dewald Brevis has sustained a side strain during practice and will be unable to take the field on March 30 in Chennai. Brevis is expected to miss more than one game for CSK.

PBKS has picked Cooper Connolly to replace Josh Inglis at number three in IPL 2026. After the latter was released, PBKS had to find someone else for the position. Many expected Shreyas Iyer to take over, since he batted 10 times at the spot last season. But that won’t be the case.

BCCI need to change IPL policy?
Sunil Gavaskar reckons that the BCCI needs to update its IPL withdrawal policy for foreign players. Currently, a player who pulls out of the mega auction or withdraws before a season for an invalid reason gets banned for 2 years. After the Ben Duckett episode, the former Indian captain believes the current policy doesn’t work.

Shaheen Afridi in trouble
Two Lahore Qalandars players, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Sikandar Raza, have been reported for violating security protocols. Raza invited 4 individuals to his hotel despite being refused by the PCB and the security personnel at the hotel. The police have written an official letter regarding the matter to the PCB and PSL.
