A run-out controversy has struck the Bangladesh vs Pakistan 2nd ODI at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. Bangladesh had opted to bowl after decimating Pakistan in the first match of the series on March 11. With the 3-match series on the line, both teams were in the midst of the battle.
Run-out controversy in BAN vs PAK 2nd ODI
On the 4th ball of the 39th over of the first innings, Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz was bowling to Mohammad Rizwan. The wicketkeeper batter hit the shortish ball outside the off stump back to the bowler. The ball went to Salman Ali Agha at the non-striker’s end.
It struck his bat while he was trying to get back to his crease. At this moment, Miraz collided with him as well. Agha thought the ball was dead and tried to pick it up and hand it back to Miraz. But the Bangladesh captain had other ideas. He picked up the ball himself and ran Agha out.
The batter was furious as Bangladesh appealed for a run-out. He fumed at Miraz and the Bangladesh wicketkeeper Liton Das. Agha threw his gloves and helmet down in anger as the decision went to the third umpire, Tanvir Ahmed, who had no choice but to adjudicate Agha out.
Afterwards, Rizwan had to stop Liton after Agha hurled some choice words at him, Miraz, and the entire Bangladesh team. Agha continued to fume in anger while walking back to the pavilion. His decision turned out to be the turning point of the innings. Pakistan were 231/3 in 38.3 overs and lost their way after the incident, as 4 wickets fell in the next 23 balls.
