The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that the schedule for IPL 2026 will be unveiled on March 12. Initially, the fixtures were expected to be announced on the day of the T20 World Cup 2026 final, right before the closing ceremony. However, it did not happen on that day and on the day that followed either.

As per news agency IANS, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said that the schedule for IPL 2026 will only be announced on March 12. The fixtures that will be unveiled on Thursday will only be for the first 20 games. Earlier, a report had stated that the governing council of the IPL has cleared the first half of the schedule for IPL 2026, with the body deciding that the schedule will be released in two phases. The report also stated that details regarding the pre-tournament captains’ meeting would be communicated by next week, depending on the announcement of legislative assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry.
“We plan to announce IPL 2026 schedule by March 12. For now, we are going to announce the IPL 2026 schedule for first 20 days,” the BCCI secretary said.
The M Chinnaswamy Stadium will host the IPL 2026 opener, a playoff game and the final, as reported earlier. This will mark the return of cricket to the iconic venue for the first time since the Bengaluru stampede which saw 11 people die and several injured. Earlier, reports had stated that the delay in the announcement of the IPL 2026 schedule was because of disagreements between franchises and state associations regarding venues apart from the geopolitical tensions prevailing in West Asia currenty. IPL 2026 is scheduled to begin from March 28 onwards.
