Alyssa Healy will be in action for the last time in international cricket in the one-off Test between India and Australia in Perth.

There are farewells, and then there are statements. Alyssa Healy chose the latter in her final one-day international (ODI) appearance. On a sunlit afternoon in Hobart, with Mitchell Starc watching from the commentary box and trying his best to stay neutral, Healy signed off from ODI cricket in the only way that felt fitting. She tore the game apart against India.

A blistering 158 off 98 balls, 27 boundaries, two sixes, and a scoreboard that eventually read 409 for 7. This goodbye will be remembered for a long, long time. A Brendon McCullum-esque knock.

India set the tone early, forming a guard of honour as Healy walked out to open one last time. Harmanpreet Kaur, who had won the toss and opted to bowl, waited at the end of the line to shake hands. It was a gesture of respect for a cricketer who has shaped an era.

Farewell spectacle from Alyssa Healy

Alyssa Healy had some nervy moments. Renuka Singh started with a maiden. There was an lbw appeal that survived on the umpire’s call. Then came the release. A pull off Kashvee Gautam steadied her. A few crisp drives followed. By the time she reached fifty off 49 balls, the rhythm had returned. Georgia Voll played her part in a lively 104-run opening stand, striking 62 off 52, but this was Healy’s stage.

Once set, she shifted gears with breathtaking ease. She brought up her eighth ODI century off just 79 balls. This means here second fifty came in just 30 balls. The carnage continued. Twenty-three runs disappeared in one over from Shree Charani. She needed only 16 deliveries to move from 100 to 150. Her 150 arrived off 95 balls, the second-fastest in women’s ODI history.

Healy’s 158 is the highest individual score in a women’s ODI in Australia and the highest ever against India. She became just the sixth woman, and only the second Australian, to register two 150-plus ODI scores. In signing off with a hundred, she joined Johmari Logtenberg as the only other woman to score a century in her final ODI.

There was even room for drama. Battling a calf issue, she attempted a reverse paddle to a full toss from Sneh Rana and was bowled behind her back. Hobart rose as one. In the commentary box, Starc’s applause, mic still on, captured the moment. Beth Mooney, fittingly, also made a century in this game, finishing unbeaten on 106. But the day belonged to Healy.

The numbers behind the legacy

Healy’s ODI career ends with 3,777 runs in 126 matches at an average of 37.02, eight centuries and 19 fifties. She won eight World Cups, redefined attacking wicketkeeping, and later captained Australia after Meg Lanning’s retirement. Here is where she stands among Australia’s ODI century-makers:
