New Zealand cricket team star Daryll Mitchell has surpassed the likes of India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav and England’s Joe Root to bag the ICC Player of the Month honour. The all-rounder was a standout performer for the Kiwis in the ODI series against India that preceded the T20 World Cup 2026. New Zealand won the series 2-1 against the hosts India, following which they lost the T20I series 1-4 to Suryakumar Yadav and co.
Mitchell is ICC’s Player of the Month for January
Mitchell recorded back-to-back centuries against India in the second and third ODI, registering scores of an unbeaten 131 and a 137 run knocks. Overall in 3 innings that he has batted so far in the ODI format, the Kiwi star has 352 runs to his name and averages an incredible 176. Mitchell is currently a part of New Zealand’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign as the side is attempting to seal a spot in the semi-finals.
Virat Kohli is the number two ranked batter in ODIs followed by Ibrahim Zadran, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill at 3, 4 and 5 respectively. No Indians feature in the top 5 rankings in the 50-over format for bowlers and all-rounders.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s Sobhana Mostary has been named the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for her stellar performance in the T20 World Cup 2026 qualifier. The star batter was nominated alongside Ireland captain Gaby Lewis and American left-arm pacer Tara Norris. Mostary scored 229 runs at an average of 45.80 and strike rate of 145.85 in the first six matches.
