Former India cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has recently been in news after he married long-time girlfriend Sophie Shine in a private ceremony in Delhi on February 21. While the couple were seen happy together, Dhawan recently received a sigh of relief in a massive legal victory in his ongoing case with ex-wife Aesha Mukerji. Notably, the Delhi Family Court on February 25 ordered his ex-wife to return INR 5.72 Crore.
The order from the Delhi Court comes in a case where Aesha Mukerji, who is an Australian national, had approached the Aussie judiciary seeking a property settlement. While the law requires the distribution of matrimonial assets between spouses, Dhawan was asked to transfer the substantial amount. But the validation was challenged by the Delhi Family Court and as a result, Aesha has been asked to re-transfer the amount to Dhawan.
Speaking of Indian matrimonial laws, especially under the Hindu Marriage Act, there remains no direct equivalent that mandates such a specific transfer of property or funds. The ruling has been termed “unsustainable” by the Delhi Court, whereas Aesha has been ordered to refund the amount.
Shikhar Dhawan hits back at fans for making false allegations on personal life
This victory for Dhawan comes soon after a group of fans made false claims after the Indian cricketer’s marriage with Sophie Shine. In a tweet which spread like wildfire, it read, “When my first wife left me, she told me that no girl would ever marry me. But by getting married again, I have given her a fitting reply. Won’t you congratulate me on my wedding?”
While it went viral, Dhawan was quick to respond while claiming it “insensitive, and false”. Keeping his calm, he replied writing, “I have come across some posts on social media attributing a disappointing statement about my personal life. I have never carried baggage from the past — be it on the pitch or outside. I firmly believe in the power of positivity while respecting my past. This is a new chapter in my life, and I feel truly grateful for the love and blessings I have received from my fans, friends, family, well-wishers, and media. I strongly urge people to associate my name with clickbait, insensitive, and false statements on social media. Let’s spread love and positivity. Thank you!”
