The back and forth over Chinnaswamy Stadium, as a venue for IPL 2026 does not seem to end. Now, as per a report in Cricbuzz, despite the clearance by the government of Karnataka, the matches here might not be a done deal. It could be due to some unresolved issues between the franchise, the stadium and the government.
RCB exploring Raipur as option
“You have to speak to RCB,” said a top KSCA official hinting at lack of clarity on the subject. “The KSCA has got the government permission to host the IPL matches. However, all the works to be undertaken and completed are under progress and will be completed as per schedule.”
Meanwhile, it seems that there are some repair works going on at the stadium, which will only be completed by the end of the month. That said, RCB want an unconditional clearance, rather than a conditional one, after the unfortunate event on June 4, 2025. In fact, they seem to be exploring Raipur’s Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, as a potential alternate.
RR seeks indemnity for playing in Jaipur
A similar situation has erupted in the case of RR. They have sought indemnity from the Rajasthan government, to host their matches at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. There is a possibility, that RR could be playing four of their seven matches in Jaipur.
“Given the identified and compliance risks, any decision by the BCCI for RR to host matches at SMS Stadium should be subject to a formal indemnity from the state or stadium authority, protecting RR from liability arising from structural, life-safety, electrical or public safety failures beyond our operational control,” a note given by the franchise to the BCCI states.
