The PSL might be on an upward curve this season, with the addition of two more new teams, and now their broadcast rights set to be sold for a record deal. As per a report Express Tribune, the rights could be sold for PKR 18 billion, if the agreement gets finalised. The PCB had floated a tender for the broadcast rights for the next four years.
PSL set to get PKR 18 billion deal?
The tender is both for television, as well and the live streaming, for the PSL season which will see a total of 44 matches, which will be up from 34, last year. The PSL 2026 gets underway on March 26, colliding head-on with the IPL 2026, which is also scheduled to start from the same date.
Meanwhile, two sports channels in the country have been disqualified from the bidding process, after failure to clear their dues, amounting close to PKR 4 billion. The report further suggests that a company (Walee Technologies), owning a PSL franchise is the frontrunner, to get the broadcast rights.
WPL broadcast value far more
The bid comes close to PKR 4.5 billion per year. The last deal (2024-2025) was valued at PKR 6.3 billion total for two years, equating to PKR 3.15 billion annually. This roughly is a growth of 43%. Interestingly, this is still notches below the value of broadcast rights for the Women’s Premier League. Viacom18 had secured the worldwide rights for web and TV, for 5 years, valued at INR 951 Cr.
In comparison, the PSL rights could be around INR 586 crore only. Another perspective is, the entire season is valued at USD 16 million, whereas in IPL one match rights are sold for USD 13.5 million.
