Day 2 of the quarter-final clashes was an eventful one, in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26. It was the bowlers once again, who did bulk of the work in the day, while only a handful of batters who score freely. InsideSport takes a look at all the headline makers in Ranji Trophy on Saturday.
Despite conceding 1st innings lead, Mumbai in command
The way the Ranji Trophy format is structured, it heavily favours the team that take the first innings lead. In the quarter-final between Mumbai and Karnataka, it was the latter who took a first innings lead of 53 runs. But their joy was only short-lived as Mumbai came back strong in the 2nd innings, to end day 2 at 189/2.
That meant a lead of 136 runs, in a low-scoring game so far. Musheer Khan is unbeaten on 49, while Akash Anand is not out on 53. Yashasvi Jaiswal played a decent knock of 36. Earlier in the day, Mohit Avasthi and Tushar Deshpande picked up four wickets each.
Auqib Nabi puts J&K in front for now
In the first innings, J&K could only manage 194. But Auqib Nabi went on to bag 7 wickets to restrict MP to only 152. Now, the second in the second innings, J&K are lagging at 84/5 with an overall lead of 126, but if they can stretch it to 200, they will be strong contenders for a spot in the semis.
By the looks of it, Indore wicket will help the pacers, and Nabi will have a chance for a big wicket-haul once again.
Bengal on top?
In another QF between Bengal and Andhra, it is still anybody’s game. Andhra scored 295 in the first innings, where Mukesh Kumar picked up 5 wickets, and at the end of the 2nd day, they are 199/5. The match is going at a slow pace, but the good news for them is, Sudip Gharami is unbeaten on 112.
Uttarakhand playing out of their skin
Uttarakhand have never progressed beyond the quarters, but this time around, it could be a different story, and they have taken a sizeable lead in the match against Jharkhand. The latter scored 235 in the first innings. Then in their turn to bat, at the end of the second day, they have managed to post 282/5, a lead of 47 runs. Experienced J Suchith is unbeaten on the crease, at 60.
