While the Indian top order in T20Is continued to struggle, it was Abhishek Sharma once again, who was a true savior for the team. On Wednesday, in the first T20I between IND & NZ, while Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan perished early, the southpaw dasher held one end tight, to give his team a rousing start, and in the process smashed his 7th fifty in the format, that came in just 22 deliveries.
Abhishek Sharma fastest in the world
He was in line for his 3rd ton as well, before Ish Sodhi removed him for 84 from just 35 deliveries; the innings included 5 fours and 8 sixes. And apart from the strike-rate of 240, what was special about the knock? Well, enroute, he created a few of his own.
Abhishek Sharma became the fastest batter in the world, to amass 5000 runs in T20s (international + domestic + IPL). He only needed 2998 deliveries to reach the milestone, 44 deliveries faster than second-placed Andre Russell, who reached the mark in 2942 balls.
Surpasses legends in list
The next on the list is, Tim David, who breached the mark in 3127 balls, followed by Will Jacks in 3196 and Glenn Maxwell in 3239. That said, as far as the innings is concerned, the record came in 165th for Abhsihek Sharma, which is the fourth fastest for an Indian.
The fastest on the list is KL Rahul in 143 innings, followed by Ruturaj Gaikwad in 145, Shubman Gill in 154. Virat Kohli got to the record in 167 innings, two slower than the Indian youngster, while Suresh Raina reached the mark in 173 innings.
