WPL 2026: Only three team go through the playoffs; table toppers make it to the final directly, while 2 and 3 battle it out in Eliminator.

We are a little over the half-way mark into WPL 2026, and after the completion of the GG vs RCB match on Monday, Smriti Mandhana’s team has become the first, to qualify for the playoffs. They have won five out of five and have a net run rate of +1.882, to go through the next round.

While RCB have displayed complete dominance, it has not been the case with other four teams, and have been inconsistent. GG for example, started off brilliantly with two wins on the trot, but have lost their way now. MI won two after losing their first, but are on a losing spree, and DC.. under their new captain Jemimah Rodrigues, have been struggling badly.

With only a handful of league matches remaining in the WPL 2026, InsideSport takes a look at the playoffs qualification scenarios for the remaining teams.

WPL 2026 Playoffs Qualification Scenarios

MI: With two wins in 5 matches, Harmanpreet Kaur’s team is on the second spot in WPL points table, in what has been a disappointing campaign so far. But by virtue of a couple of big wins, they have a decent NRR of +0.151. That keeps them up in the table.

So, in all probability, they need to win only two out of their remaining three to go through. In fact, one win would also bring them closer to qualification, but that is when the NRR comes into play, and they will have to wait for other results.

UPW: After three losses on the trot, they have won two back-to-back. It would not be unfair to say, that they are the in-form team. Phoebe Litchfield and Meg Lanning are in good form, and taking the team through. Two wins should be enough for them as well. Three of course, would assure them a place.

GG: They are one side, who is woefully out of form. They are fourth in the points table, and just one win is what separates them from bottom-placed DC. Due to their poor NRR, they should win all their matches to be able to go to the next round, or hope that MI and UPW lose badly.

DC: The new-look Delhi has not been able to sustain the pressure of the tournament, despite playing well in patches. IN four encounters they have won only one; but the advantage they have over the other teams is, they have played a match less. Three wins out of four could seal the deal.
