Russian officials are calling for a ban or censored version of GTA 6, citing concerns over moral standards and youth.

As Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) moves closer to its global launch, it has hit a major roadblock in Russia. Government officials and religious leaders are calling for a complete ban on this highly anticipated title, citing concerns over “destructive content.” The debate focuses on whether the game’s inclusion of mature themes violates the country’s traditional values.

With Rockstar Games currently in the final stages of polishing the game for a 2026 release, the Russian market now faces the possibility of being left out entirely.

GTA 6 Faces Ban In Russia: Concerns Over Moral Standard

The call for a ban was led by Mikhail Ivanov, Deputy Chairman of the World Russian People’s Council. Ivanov expressed strong disapproval of the game’s content, specifically pointing to rumors of male striptease scenes. He described such elements as a direct violation of basic moral standards and a threat to the spiritual health of the younger generation, so it is expected that GTA 6 Faces Ban in russia.

Ivanov argued that the popularity of the Grand Theft Auto series makes it a dangerous tool of influence. He believes that allowing children and teenagers to access this type of entertainment is tantamount to corruption. According to him, Russia must be more principled than other countries that only use age verification systems.

A Demand for Censorship or Ban

The proposed solution is a strict “all or nothing” approach. Ivanov suggested that the Russian government should either impose a total ban on the distribution of GTA 6 or force Rockstar Games to release a special, censored version. This local version would need to be stripped of all “immoral content” to comply with regional values.

While politicians debate the ban, development continues behind the scenes. Journalist Tom Henderson recently reported that the core content for GTA 6 is finished, and the team is now focused on fixing bugs and optimizing performance to ensure a stable launch
