Star Indian batter and former captain, Virat Kohli, has an ardent fan following not only in the subcontinent but beyond international waters. While his following is clearly visible through his social media accounts, fans also flock in large numbers to watch their leader play. Currently playing in the three-match ODI series against New Zealand at home, an instance of his fondness among the general masses once again came to light.
Ahead of the second ODI between India and New Zealand, which is being played at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot on January 14, a fan was spotted carrying an iPhone case which had Virat Kohli embossed on it. While not much was known initially, but after several interactions, it came to light that the fan was sporting a gold iPhone cover with a caricature of Kohli embossed on it and wished to gift it to the batting stalwart. Reportedly, the cover is currently values to be worth INR 15 Lakh.
Notably, this is not the first instance of a fan expressing love for the 37-year-old cricketer as he has been extended with several gifts from fans which comprises of his portraits, bracelets, and several others.
Virat Kohli dethrones Rohit Sharma as World No 1
The 37-year-old Delhi-born cricketer has been in sensational form of late. Returning to his best with a match-winning 93 off 91 deliveries in the first ODI against New Zealand in Vadodara, Virat Kohli reclaimed the top position in the latest ICC Men’s ODI Rankings. The top-order batter dethroned teammate Rohit Sharma to surge back to the top for the first time in nearly five years.
Virat Kohli last stood at the leaderboard on April 2, 2021. But just prior to the second ODI, ICC shared an update which saw the veteran batter gain 12 rating points to move up to 785 rating points, while Rohit Sharma moved down from 781 to 775 rating points to take the third place after Daryl Mitchell, who moved to his career best ranking.
