Rishabh Pant isn't a certain starter for the Vadodara ODI but might feature in the last two games.

Rishabh Pant has injured himself on the eve of the India vs New Zealand 1st ODI. The wicketkeeper batter had joined the squad yesterday in Vadodara, after featuring for Delhi in the last group-stage match of the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Pant suffers injury scare

To fine-tune himself for the match, Pant chose to practice instead of resting. He arrived at the BCA Stadium’s Ground B with the entire team. According to RevSportz, all was going well until Pant copped a blow just above his waist during throwdowns.

The keeper grimaced in pain after getting hurt and was tended to by the medical team. The support staff and other players watched on as Pant received treatment. However, Pant wasn’t ready to continue. He left practice early with two members of the medical team accompanying him.

Soon after, India’s ODI captain, Shubman Gill, was seen engaging in a long conversation with the chairman of selectors, Ajit Agarkar. One can’t be certain, but Pant might have been the topic of discussion.

Apart from Pant and Gill, Shreyas Iyer, Rohit Sharma, Mohammed Siraj, KL Rahul, and Ravindra Jadeja were also present for the optional practice session. In fact, Rohit gave Siraj some batting tips. He stood outside the nets and helped the fast bowler.
