Initially, India was slated to play 2 Test matches against Sri Lanka away from home in August 2026.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Chairman Shammi Silva has revealed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has agreed to add T20I matches to India’s tour of Sri Lanka in August 2026.

India’s tour of Sri Lanka extended

As a goodwill gesture to raise funds for those affected by Cyclone Ditwah, which caused extensive damage in several parts of Sri Lanka, BCCI has added T20Is to the existing 2-match Test series.

Silva revealed that BCCI had even agreed to send Team India for a 2-match T20I tour of Sri Lanka in December. However, the series couldn’t go ahead due to time constraints and difficulty striking a deal with the broadcasters.

“There was willingness from India to come down at the end of December to play two T20Is to raise funds, but there was simply no time to organise it, especially with no broadcaster available,” the SLC Chairman said.

Silva expressed gratitude towards BCCI and Team India, noting that these extra T20I matches will generate much-needed revenue for cyclone relief and reconstruction efforts. Considering how sports can alleviate pain, the series might help those suffering.

India and Sri Lanka will play another series in 2026, when the latter will tour the former for a white-ball tour of 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is in the month of December.
