A renewed Shafali Verma has been making the most of the opportunities she is getting with Team India now.

India batter Shafali Verma has been in some sensational form in the T20Is, and that has seen an upsurge in her ICC rankings as well. In the latest released by the global body, the 21-year-old has moved up four rungs to be 6th in the world, with 736 points. If one sees her performances in the Sri Lanka series, she has returned with scores of 9, 69, 79, and 79.

For the record, she had risen to the world no. 1 spot back in 2020, as a 16-year-old only. She had become only the second Indian behind Mithali Raj to reach the top of the ladder in the format. Meanwhile, as far as the other batters are concerned, Smriti Mandhana stays put at no. 3 with 767 points.

Jemimah Rodrigues has slipped a spot to no. 10, while Richa Ghosh has gone up a few rungs to no. 20. As far as the bowling rankings are concerned in the format, India’s Deepti Sharma is best-placed from the country at no. 3. Surprisingly, the next Indian in the list is Renuka Singh Thakur, at no. 38.

Bowling an issue for India

Talking about the ODIs, Smriti Mandhana is at no. 2, followed by Jemimah at no. 10. Harmanpreet is at 14, followed by Deepti at 21. In the bowlers list, here also Deepti is best-placed Indian at no. 5. Renuka is at 19, followed by Shree Charani at 23. All-rounder Sneh Rana is at 25.

For now, the Indian women’s team is gearing up for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, which is slated to be held next year in June. The team has made it to the final, but never lifted the trophy; would like to change that stat.
