4-0 sounds good, but is it? The India cricket team has comprehensively outplayed Sri Lanka at home. The hosts have chased targets down before the 15th over ended in the first 3 matches. In the fourth, they recorded their highest-ever T20I total, 221.
Batting: 9 wickets lost in 4 matches
Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur were out of form in the first 3 matches. Jemimah Rodrigues was scratchy in the third game. Yet, India lost just 7 wickets in these games combined. Just 2 wickets lost while posting 221 in the fourth one, India’s highest T20I score. They are averaging a whopping 65.22 per wicket.
It has been a dream for Indian batters. Sri Lanka hasn’t troubled them at all. Richa Ghosh, perhaps the most destructive batter India has, has faced just 17 deliveries. The wicketkeeper showed what she could have done, scoring 40 of 16 in the India vs Sri Lanka 4th T20I.
The conditions in England, hosts of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, will be completely different. One understands that. But the competition will be intense. That’s something that India hasn’t faced. Sri Lanka has basically rolled over. We looked at bowling, but their batting hasn’t been great either.
Bowling: Tested just once
The visitors have lost 28 wickets in the four matches: 6, 9, 7, and 6. That’s a whole lot more than India’s 9. They have averaged 19.71 per wicket while batting. India stands at 65.22. This indicates how poorly Sri Lanka has batted. Despite no Indian bowler taking more than 4 wickets in the series, the visitors have struggled.
Sri Lanka hasn’t even been all out once. Their batters don’t have the T20 prowess that top teams have. They scored 121, 128, and 112 in the first three games. This shows that they aren’t going hard enough. Teams go hammer and tongs when falling behind; it’s something Sri Lanka just hasn’t done.
Sree Charani and Arundhati Reddy haven’t been on the money despite playing 7 games between them. Yet, Sri Lanka haven’t really put a dent on Indians. In the fourth T20I, they did score 191, which is their highest score in the format. In some way, they tested India just a bit. But it’s been little too late.
