Virat Kohli scored his second back-to-back fifty in the Vijay Hazare Trophy off just 29 deliveries and missed out on a well-deserved 100

Former India cricket team captain Virat Kohli showed once again why he is one of the best batters in the world with yet another classy knock in the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Friday. Coming in to bat at number 3, the Delhi batter started off his innings on an aggressive note, striking boundaries at will before he skillfully tackled the bowlers in the game against Gujarat. Eventually, Kohli missed out on scoring his 59th List A ton which would have taken him a step closer to equalling Sachin Tendulkar’s long-held record. Follow Round 2 of VHT 2025/26 here.

Kohli managed to score 77 runs off 61 deliveries, striking 13 fours and one six at a strike rate of 126.23. He brought up his half-century off just 29 deliveries as he embarked on a boundary hitting spree early on in his innings before slowing done eventually. His dismissal came at the hands of Vishal Jayswal who managed to lure him out of the crease to get him stumped, bringing an end to his wholesome knock. Kohli’s dismissal came at a time when he was tackling spin very well, showing promising signs ahead of the IND vs NZ ODIs.

Virat Kohli made a remarkable comeback for Delhi for the first time since 2010 earlier this week in round 1 of the VHT 2025/26 match. That means he had his entire Test career sandwiched between his two appearances in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. And what did he do? Dominate. Chasing 299, he produced a commanding 131 off 101 balls, his 50 coming in 39 deliveries and his hundred in 83, steering Delhi to 300 for 6 in just 37.4 overs. Eventually, Delhi secured a comfortable victory against Andhra.

It remains to be seen if Kohli will play yet another game in the VHT before the ODI series against New Zealand.
