Veer remarked that he refused to think of himself as Jadeja's replacement or having to fill in the shoes of the veteran in CSK in IPL 2026

Chennai Super Kings’ latest recruit Prashant Veer has steered clear of comparisons with Ravindra Jadeja ahead of the next season. The UP star, who became the joint-most expensive uncapped Indian in the history of the league after being picked up for Rs 14.20 crore, has been dubbed as Ravindra Jadeja’s replacement. For the record, CSK were in dire need for a new all-rounder after the southpaw was traded to RR ahead of the IPL 2026 auction.

CSK’s new recruit doesn’t want to be compared to Jadeja

In an interview with Sportstar, Veer remarked that he refused to think of himself as Jadeja’s replacement or having to fill in the shoes of the veteran in CSK in IPL 2026. The UP batter stated that he might lag if he thought on those lines, adding that all he intended to do was give his best.

“If I think of these things, I feel I might lag. I will give my best,” Prashant Veer said.

Veer delivered a standout performance in the Uttar Pradesh T20 League (UPT20), having scored 320 runs from 10 games, averaging 64 and picked up 8 wickets. He then scored 376 runs in 7 innings at an average of 94 in the U23 One-Day competition and finished as the third highest wicket-taker with 18 scalps to his name.

He was even called for trials by CSK before the mini auction. In 9 T20 games, Veer scored 112 runs with a highest score of 40 runs. Prashant made his List A debut for UP on Wednesday and finished with figures of 3/47 with the ball.

It felt great (To be picked in the IPL 2026 auction for Rs 14.20 crore). It was quite unexpected for me. But what is done is done. My focus should be on the game and how to help the team win matches. They have shown trust, and I must live up to it,” Veer said.
