The second round of group stage matches will take place on December 26.

The first round of the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) matches has come to an end. With the Indian stars returning to the domestic List A tournament, eyes were glued to scorecards as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was streaming just select matches.

Kohli breaks Tendulkar’s record

Playing his first VHT match in over 15 years, Virat Kohli cracked an impressive century against Andhra at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 1. Stuck on 15,999 runs, Kohli needed just 1 run to break Sachin Tendulkar’s record to become the fastest to 16,000 runs in List A cricket.

Not only did Kohli score that solitary run, but he also went on to add 130. Chasing 299, the 37-year-old entered the middle in the first over. Kohli went into his regular chase-master mode, scored his 58th List A hundred and got out when Delhi needed just 25 to win from 17.1 overs. He now needs just 3 List A hundreds to overtake Tendulkar’s 60.

Rohit Sharma’s unbeaten 155

Rohit Sharma one-upped Kohli against Sikkim. Chasing just 237, the opener remained unbeaten at 155, as Mumbai won in just 30.3 overs. The 38-year-old got to his fifty in just 28 balls and reached his 37th List A hundred from just 62 balls. The number one-ranked batter showed just how good he is, as only one other batter in the match scored a half-century.

Suryavanshi becomes youngest centurion

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s record-breaking spree doesn’t seem to stop. In just his 7th List A match, the 14-year-old became the youngest centurion in VHT history and smashed the fastest hundred in List A history. Suryavanshi brought up his maiden 50-over hundred from just 36 balls against Arunachal Pradesh. It was the second-fastest List A century until Bihar captain Sakibul Gani smashed a hundred from just 32 balls in the same innings.

Padikkal outshines Kishan

Ishan Kishan smashed the fourth-fastest List A hundred, but Jharkhand still went on to lose. Despite setting a mammoth 413-run target, Jharkhand would have thought they were in the safe zone. But Devdutt Padikkal and Karnataka had other ideas. The southpaw opener played a masterful knock of 147 (118), guiding Karnataka to a record chase.

In what is the second-highest List A chase of all-time, every Karnataka batter scored over 25. Captain Mayank Agarwal and Abhinav Manohar scored quick fifties, but each player made a valuable contribution. Karun Nair was Karnataka’s slowest batter, and even he had a strike rate of 107.41.
