In the latest development, India women’s cricket team star Jemimah Rodrigues is all set to be named the new captain of Delhi Capitals for Women’s Premier League (WPL 2026). The batter was retained for Rs 2.2 crore by the franchise ahead of the WPL 2026 auction. The fourth edition of the tournament is scheduled to begin from January 8 onwards.
Jemimah to replace Lanning as DC captain in WPL 2026
As per Cricbuzz, the official annoucement of Jemimah taking over as the DC captain will be made on dece,ber 23 (Tuesday). Rodrigues will take over the reins from Lanning, who was released earlier this year ahead of the mega auction. DC have been the runners-up on all three occasions so far and have failed to lift the trophy.
“We are very clear we want an Indian as captain. We have our minds made up,” DC co-owner Parth Jindal had said after the WPL 2026 auction.
So far, jemimah has taken part in 27 WPL games in which she has amassed 507 runs with the bat averaging 28.16. Her heroics in the ODI World Cup 2025 helped India take a step closer to lift the trophy.
