December 16 was all about the IPL 2026 auction. Cameron Green went big. CSK went crazy for capped players. Venkatesh Iyer will play for a new franchise. A Kashmiri pacer sparked a bidding frenzy. Two unsold, uncapped stars had their fortunes changed. Lastly, Axar Patel’s replacement has made his Test aspirations clear.

KKR get Cameron Green
As expected, Cameron Green was the most expensive player of the IPL 2026 auction. An intense battle ensued between KKR and CSK for the Australian all-rounder. In the end, the former bagged Green for a whopping INR 25.25 crore. In the process, he became the most expensive buy at mini auctions.

CSK’s uncapped punt
After CSK couldn’t get their hands on Green, the 5-time champions broke the bank for 2 uncapped players. CSK paid INR 14.20 crore for Prashant Veer and Kartik Sharma. The former is a replacement for Ravindra Jadeja from Uttar Pradesh, while the latter is a wicketkeeper-batter from Rajasthan. Later, the CSK head coach talked about why they went so hard for them.

Venkatesh Iyer suffers loss of INR 16.75 crore
Venkatesh Iyer will play for another franchise for the first time. The all-rounder was bought by RCB in Abu Dhabi for INR 7 crore. It turned out to be a 70.5% pay cut for Venkatesh; he received INR 23.75 crore from KKR last year. However, this might work in his favour, as he won’t have to carry the price tag pressure with him anymore.

Sarfaraz Khan & Prithvi Shaw SOLD
After going unsold last year, both Sarfaraz Khan and Prithvi Shaw find bidders in Abu Dhabi. Sarfaraz went unsold the first time around but was grabbed by CSK later at his base price. Prithvi didn’t find any bidders in the first and accelerated round, but his name was called upon again, and DC got him.

Auqib Nabi’s fortune changes
After years of toiling hard in domestic cricket with little to no recognition, Auqib Nabi has finally found the success he was waiting for. The uncapped pacer from Jammu and Kashmir was bought for INR 8.40 crore by DC after an intense battle with SRH, making him the most expensive Kashmiri player in IPL history.

Axar Patel’s replacement’s Test dream
Shahbaz Ahmed, who has been called into the T20I team in place of Axar Patel, has expressed a desire to make it to India’s Test team as well. The all-rounder has already represented India in white-ball cricket. After a splendid first leg of the Ranji Trophy, Shahbaz thinks he can get his maiden Test call-up soon.
